Gateau is a very broad subject. Care to be more specific?
Certainly! Here's a classic recipe for a delicious Gateau:

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
For the frosting:
  • 1 ½ cups heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional garnish:
  • Fresh berries
  • Powdered sugar
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes.
  4. Reduce the speed to low and slowly pour in the boiling water. Mix until the batter is well combined, but it will be thin. Don't worry, this is normal.
  5. Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth. Allow the ganache to cool and thicken to a spreadable consistency.
  9. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of the chocolate ganache frosting evenly on top.
  10. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the entire cake with the remaining chocolate ganache. You can decorate the cake with fresh berries or sprinkle powdered sugar on top for an optional garnish.
  11. Refrigerate the cake for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the frosting to set.
Slice and serve your delicious Gateau! Enjoy!
