Hi guys,

Ive checked my ShopRite, Pathmark & Stop n' Shop to no avail. All I can find are whole cloves and whole black peppercorns. Where can I buy whole spices on the internet?? I wanna make my own spice blends and those are the only stores in my area. Thanks a bunch.

I checked out their prices and they are very reasonable. There was a place online charging $12 for 16 oz of Mustard seed plus shipping and handling. Ive requested a catalog from Penzeys. Thanks again.

Penzey's is good. Very fresh.

I've been using spices etc. www.spicesetc.com and been very pleased. They also carry some oddball things that are handy like vinegar powder, wine powders and things that are highly useful in rubs and such where the extra liquid gets in the way.

Shawty - I'd never buy whole spices in the groceries - who knows how long they've been there!!!

Penzeys is great - I'm a huge fan of theirs. Try checking ethnic markets in your area - Indian markets and/or Latino markets are great places. The prices in the Indian markets for whole spices are so cheap my jaw dropped the first time I saw them!!! And I've found them much fresher than other places because their turnover is so high. The Latino markets are great for whole dried chiles, allspice, etc.

Check out your local ethnic grocery stores and health food stores, sometimes they'll carry fresh bulk spices at prices much better than the grocery stores with a much wider selection.

I love The Spice House in Evanston, IL. The minute you open the door your senses are bombarded with thousands of aromas. Everything is so fresh, and all the people there are so knowledgable. There is now one in downtown Chicago also. If you are ever in the area, go check them out!!!!

Penzey's is primo! Whenever I get back to the Twin Cities I visit one of the two stores there. The aroma when you open the door is huge. YOu get the sweets of the cinnamon with the hot of the chilis and the richness of the rubs.....mmmmmm. They have jars of every spice to open and smell. I try to keep my order under $100.

Their catalog is great, but the stores are like a trip to a toy store! They try to find funky quaint areas to locate in.

Be sure to try all four of their different cinnamons........

Take a look - not only do they have spices, but grains, flours, legumes, olives
and a ton of other groovy stuff. One of my favorite places in NYC -and much funkier and ethnic than Penzey's (with a slant on Indian cusine - lots of pappadams and chutneys!)
