Good morning! Welcome to Chef Talk. The members here, both home bakers and professionals, are a superb resource. Besides the forums we have cooking articles, cookbook reviews, recipes, blogs, photos (including a LOT of pastry!) and more.

I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed what you've read so far. Now it's your turn to participate in the discussions! It's nearly always useful to do a search with our search tool to see if your topic has been discussed earlier. We've been here for 10 years, so there's likely to be something about a lot of topics.

How did you get started cooking and baking? Is that part of your family tradition?

I've had an interest in cooking and baking, making things as far as that goes, for as long as I can remember. I really enjoy doing things for people. I enjoy making people happy and cooking and baking does that. I love the comments and ohhhs and ahhhs when people are enjoying something I've made.

I've been interested in opening a cupcake and individual dessert shop for the past 2 years. In doing research on the net, I came to the realization that there are already cupcake shops out there. That's when I discovered Magnolia and Sprinkles, to name a few. Apparently sheltered here in SW MO, NW AR. And I DON'T want to copy. I have my own ideas, recipes and flavor combinations. Anyway, I've done research on recipes, perfected a few I love and turned cake and dessert recipes into cupcake size desserts. That's the main reason I'm here. To get help and advise in my quest. If I can give advise on the way, that's just bonus for me.

I just turned 34 and am a mother of a 9 yr old, a 2 1/2 yr old and a 35 yr old husband. lol. I'm staying home with our son right now and starting a small online business that I've been working on, on and off for the past 8 months.

I bake cupcakes whenever I can, any occasion or reason. Made sour cream cupcakes for my 9yr olds birthday party yesterday and just made pupcakes for our Dauchsund, they are cooling right now. Will make many more this year.

I need to check on culinary schools and/or classes in my area. I know there's non real close. I want to take a business course or 2 this summer. I feel confident in my ability to bake and create, even manage. But there are questions I need answers for. I hope to find them here.
